In the early 1900s God gave William Borden, millionaire heir to the Borden dairy estate, a burden for the world’s hurting people, and as a result Borden committed his life to preparation for the mission field.
While a student at Yale University, Borden’s peers quickly realized that he had surrendered his heart to Christ, and he quickly influenced a campus that lacked direction and purpose. He began Bible studies that quickly grew in size, reaching 1,000 of Yale’s 1,300 students by his senior year.
Borden did not limit his work to campus, also starting Yale Hope Mission as a rehabilitation home for alcoholics and other people having difficult times. Many students were inspired by his constant work to do God’s business.
After finishing at Yale and then Princeton Theological Seminary, Borden left for China to be a missionary to the Muslims there. But on his way he was struck by an illness and died at age 25. It may seem a waste, but really there is little to regret about a life so dedicated to the service of Christ.
